Corporate Profile
Labco at Glance
Labco is a leading medical diagnostics Group based on a unique pan-European network of local and regional clinical laboratories. The network currently is composed by a staff of over 4.500 people, in more than 300 laboratories across 6 countries in Europe. Labco offers a portfolio of over 1.000 reliable clinical tests and treats more than 10 million patients a year.
Labco operates in a growing private medical diagnostics market with a total size in Europe of approximately €72 billion. The company’s growth strategy is based on leveraged acquisitions of small to medium sized laboratories, whereby their owners become shareholders of Labco. After joining the group, the managers of individual laboratories continue to operate with a large degree of independence and responsibility to best serve their patients and physicians. Labco supports its laboratory managers and their staff by offering them the use of its resources and programs (R&D, Quality Assurance Accreditation, Continuous Medical Education, central purchasing, etc).
Founded in 2004, Labco rapidly became the largest laboratory Group in France. In 2006 Labco expanded into two new markets by incorporating laboratories in Germany and Italy where the Group continues to perform strongly. In 2007 the integration of General Lab in its network was a significant milestone for the Group. In 2008, Labco has become leader in Ibéria. In 2009 and 2010, Labco aimed at structuring and consolidating the group through cross-border synergies and integrating group projects.
Labco has a unique model for its growth and operations: Labco incorporates existing leading local and regional clinical laboratories in its network and allows their laboratory doctors to become partners of Labco. This partnership philosophy is evident at both the ownership level (more than 50% of Labco’s capital is owned by the local laboratory managers) as well as on the management level of individual laboratories (these remain independently run by their medical and support staff). This model allows Labco to achieve large economies of scale while as well as maintaining the motivation and commitment of its local medical professionals.
